Rory McIlroy has made a roaring comeback on the PGA Tour! With two back-to-back wins, first at the Zurich Classic and then at the Wells Fargo Championship, Rors has proven why he is the current world no. 2. The Northern Irishman won against Xander Schauffele on the Charlotte greens with the help of his exquisite gameplay and talent, which Paige Spiranac couldn’t help but admire.
However, not everyone seemed to be a fan of the now-26-time PGA Tour winner. When the diva shared a tweet on X expressing her admiration for McIlroy, many in the golfing world made sure to come forward and convey their distaste for the golfer!
The post uploaded by the 31-year-old basically calls attention to McIlroy’s talent on the greens, especially the one he showcased at the signature event, which helped him card a score of 17-under 267. Spiranac also conveyed her enthusiasm for watching him play: “Rory is so insanely talented. It’s truly special watching him play when he has his best stuff.”
Interestingly enough, she wasn’t always too keen on supporting the 35-year-old Rory McIlroy on the greens. Back in 2023, when she shared her predictions for the various majors, the model decided not to pick his name while stating how he has failed to deliver every single time. However, the case changes when it comes to a non-major event: “I said I would never pick him again for a major after he has broken my heart one too many times, So why not pick him for the Scottish Open?”
McIlroy made the golf diva’s prediction come true. The 34-year-old emerged victorious at the Scottish Open, marking his 24th PGA Tour victory. He did so with a scintillating 15-under 265 including 22 birdies, nine bogeys, and an eagle on the par-5 third hole on Thursday. Proving himself on the greens at non-majors seems to not be good enough for many, as they took to the post to share their displeasure for the golfer after Spiranac shared the post following his 26th win on the circuit at Quail Hollow Club.
Rory McIlroy boasts a total of four major victories, two of which came at the PGA Championship in 2012 and 2014, and the rest of which came at the 2011 U.S. Open and the 2014 Open Championship. Yes, you read that right. His last major victory came a decade ago, in August 2014. Just a Masters win short of making a Career Grand Slam, he couldn’t dish out a win at the recently ended major as well, finishing T22, all thanks to his scores of 71-77-71-73 at 4-over par overall. The second round score of 77 (+5) was especially hard to forget as it elicited many responses from the community: “Personally I enjoy watching him shoot +5 at the masters the most.” Meanwhile, other users took a whole more general approach when taking a jab at the professional: “Still won’t win another major in his career,” and “Talk to me when he wins another major.”
Since his PGA Championship win in 2014, Rory McIlroy has won a total of 17 times on the Jay Monahan-led circuit. Moreover, the recent triumph at the Wells Fargo Championship puts him at the 22nd spot on the Tour’s all-time wins list, tied with Henry Picard, with his first one coming off in 2010 at Quail Hollow as well as the most recent one. Aside from these wins, he has finished a total of seven times in the top 10 for the Masters Tournament, eight times at the U.S. Open, seven times at the Open Championship, and a total of eight times at the PGA Championship. Some followers couldn’t help but comment, “I’m amazed he hasn’t won more,” as well as point out how he’s “He’s 22nd on most wins over 15 years. Why is everyone always so amazed by Rory?
