Paige Spiranac comes to defence of Caitin Clark after seeing ‘vicious’ hate

With her run to the final of the women’s NCAA basketball tournament over the past few weeks, Caitlin Clark has made a lot of new fans – and some enemies as well.

One person you can firmly put in the first camp is Paige Spiranac, who has come to the defence of the Iowa hoops sensation after seeing the “absolutely vicious” hate she received during March Madness.

Clark cemented her status as one of the greatest college basketball players ever by breaking the career scoring record earlier this year and then leading the Hawkeyes to the final, where they lost to an undefeated powerhouse South Carolina squad.

Despite all the plaudits she earned and the near certainty she will be the top pick in this year’s WNBA draft, the 22-year-old was subject to much criticism from current and former players, analysts and the average user on social media.

Among the voices against Clark were Phoenix Mercury star Diana Taurasi, Las Vegas Aces star Kelsey Plum and Kansas Jayhawks legend Lynette Woodard – who questioned the validity of Clark’s scoring record because of rule changes in the game.

Spiranac, one of the world’s most popular golf influencers, was having none of it, questioning why women often try to tear each other down while also preaching empowerment.

“The hate towards Caitlin Clark from current and former players is disappointing but not surprising,” Spiranac posted on X (formerly Twitter).

“Women can be absolutely vicious to other women while also preaching empowering the next generation. I’ve seen it first hand but we must remember a rising tide lifts all boats.”

Spiranac has had her fair share of haters as well. While the blonde bombshell may boast more than seven million followers over her social media accounts, she has talked about the criticisms over her outfit choices – especially on the golf course.

She often has rallied against the strict dress codes in effect at several golf course, saying that people play better when they are comfortable – which makes a lot of sense.

Another common criticism that the influencer faces is that she only is getting by on her looks as opposed to her golf, despite a solid background playing the sport. While Spiranac didn’t make the LPGA Tour, she was a successful collegiate player and clearly knows a thing or two.

Earlier this year she collaborated with one-time major winner Bryson Dechambeau in which they took turns caddying for each other and last year posted a video of herself sinking a hole in one while working with a swing coach.

As for Clark, on top of the mᴀssive popularity she has gained over the past year, she also has helped grow the game of women’s basketball. The Final Four matchup between Clark’s Iowa team and Paige Bucker’s UConn Huskies was one of the highest-rated games in college basketball with 14.2 million people tuning in.

To follow that up, Sunday’s final between Iowa and South Carolina had a peak audience of more than 24 million people, according to Forbes.
