Lady Gaga appreciates when radio stations censor her songs, as she believes it shows they are paying attention to her music and lyrics.
“Poker Face” had lyrics that were deemed obscene by Kiss FM, leading to censorship, but Gaga agreed with the decision and praised the radio station.
Gaga is no stranger to controversy and has faced bans and criticism for songs like “Judas,” but she denies any malicious intent and claims to respect everyone’s beliefs.
Lady Gaga has been a controversial and successful figure in music for more than two decades. She usually goes against censorship and doesn’t appreciate having her songs and videos dissected. On the other hand, however, she has invited controversy through the choice of her songs and lyrics.
Gaga is surprisingly private in her love life, yet, she’s more likely to talk about her boyfriends than agree that a radio station rightfully censored one of her songs. However, that’s exactly what she did when Kiss FM censored her hit, “Poker Face.”

Kiss FM censored the lyrics of Lady Gaga’s “Poker Face” because they were obscene. This was an interesting development, as no other radio station found fault with the lyrics. However, Gaga herself praised the radio station for catching the offending lyrics.
“Kiss FM is the smartest radio station in the whole world, and I’ll tell you why,” Gaga said.
“Because this song… it got played all over the world and on thousands and tens of thousands of radio stations, but Kiss FM is the only one that said I had to censor my lyrics because they thought I may be saying something bad,” she explained.
She then pointed out that not only was the station’s right to request the lyrics be censored, but she agreed with the decision and had no hard feelings because of it.
“And out of all the radio stations in the world that played this record over and over, Kiss FM was the only one that was right, that caught on,” she said, smirking.
As fans were quick to point out in the comments to the video of her explanation, Gaga may have felt respect for Kiss FM for actually paying attention to her music and lyrics. She has also long been known to “troll” radio stations, which is another thing that fans love about her.
“Poker Face” has been an iconic song for Gen Zers who grew up with it, so discovering that the lyrics were “questionable” also came as a surprise to some fans. Others might have cheekily actually sung the offending lyrics exactly how Lady Gaga had wanted them to, which contributed to their delight when she admitted that they were rightfully censored.
The offending lyrics? They sort of rhyme with “poker face” but involve a different phrase; “f*** her face.”
Of course, the singer is no stranger to controversy and has had songs and entire albums banned in some countries.
Gaga’s Song “Judas” Was Also Banned In Lebanon
Lebanon banned Lady Gaga’s “Judas” because of its religious imagery and inflammatory lyrics, including “I want to love you,/but something’s pulling me away from you/Jesus is my virtue, and Judas is the demon I cling to.”
Lebanese authorities not only banned the song from radio, but they also went so far as to impound boxes of Born This Way, the album that featured the song.
Moreover, the song received condemnation from various religious groups, including The Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights, whose president accused Gaga of having become “a caricature of herself” when the song came out.
“This is a stunt. Lady Gaga tries to continue to shock Catholics and Christians in general: she dresses as a nun. She swallows the rosary. She has now morphed into a caricature of herself,” the president said.
However, Gaga insisted that she had meant no harm when she wrote the lyrics. Gaga defended both her “Judas” lyrics and her video in interviews at the time they came out.
“This video is not meant to be an attack on religion. It’s not meant to be an attack on anyone’s beliefs,” she said.
“I respect and love everybody’s beliefs. My fans know that about me. I consider myself a strong and devoted Catholic, and a religious and spiritual person who’s obsessed with religious art,” she concluded.
