Scarlett Johansson was shocked to see her Black Widow costume for Iron Man 2
After she accepted the role of Black Widow, it became a learning curve for the actress. Among the new experiences in the MCU was her costume for her character. Scarlett Johansson was shocked to see the outfit. Johansson shared in an interview that she had some idea about the costume, but seeing it, in reality, was very different.
The Lost in Translation fame said to Sci-Fi Movie Page,
“I knew it was going to be some kind of Sєxy unitard because I had researched the character in the comics. I’ve never worn anything like that before, so I had a freak-out moment that lasted about half a day, but then I said, ‘Okay, time to suck it up’ and just went full force into getting in shape to wear the costume and perform the physical action so it looked just right.”

In one of the episodes of Inside the Actors Studio, Johansson shared in detail the reason for her dislike for the costume.
“Who wants to get into something like that? You just think, ‘Oh God, really?’ Couldn’t it have some sort of peplum skirt or something like that. This thing is so, ‘There you are.’”
Iron Man 2, featuring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, and Scarlett Johansson, was directed by Jon Favreau and written by Justin Theroux. It was released in theaters in 2010.
Scarlett Johansson rejected this Black Widow costume for Iron Man 2

Johansson said in a conversation with US Magazine,
“At the time, Marvel was interested in the character being a shape-shifter. When we were doing Captain America: The Winter Soldier – this is a really funny thing – the look is fantastic and utilitarian. She first drives up in this beautiful car and picks up Cap, and initially, in the script, it was like, she arrives in her tennis white, with a blonde wig. It was very quickly killed.”

The Under the Skin actress shared that the costume design was such because of the male writers of her role.
“Things were shifting. You have to be a part of the change. Audiences are also demanding stuff, and there’s a cultural shift and it feeds everything into a more progressive direction. It’s been a process, it’s been a process.”
Scarlett Johansson got her own sH๏τ with the movie Black Widow released in 2021.
