Scarlett Johansson and the day she lost an Oscar role that ended up sparking a wave of hatred

he career of an actress is full of decisions, sometimes they are the right decisions, while others cause everlasting regret. Luck played a key role more than a decade ago for Scarlett Johansson, who by then was already one of the most established actresses in Hollywood.

It all goes back to 2012, when the performer was enjoying a purple patch having just featured in ‘Avengers’. At that time, Johansson took part in several castings, and there was one she was very excited about. She auditioned to play Fantine in the musical ‘Les Miserables’, which opened on the big screen on December 25 of that year.

Scarlett Johansson: ‘Know your own worth and stand up for yourself’AP
“It was perfect and I think fateful and meant to be,” she told Broadway.com. “I auditioned with laryngitis. I did everything I could to, like, not have laryngitis. I sang my little heart out.”

Anne Hathaway eventually won the role, and Johansson believes Hathaway gave a stellar performance. She added: “I think, looking at the film now, there’s no possible way I ever could have topped that performance. It was fun for me to revisit thatThe jazz hands kid inside me was just over the moon!”

The hate campaign against Anne Hathaway
Hathaway’s casting, on the other hand, started a wave of hate on social networks, and after the premiere, many pointed out that the atтιтude of the actress in each awards ceremony .Above all, the moment of greatest tension was at the Golden Globes, an award won by Hathaway as best actress.

At the event, the actress showed an erratic atтιтude and, after delivering her speech, she returned to the stage when her film won the award for best picture and, instead of letting someone else take the floor, she continued with her previous speech.

From that moment on, social networks started a hate campaign against Hathaway and hashtags such as #Hathahaters and #Hathahate went viral. Others, on the other hand, defended the actress, ᴀssuring that it was a role and that she was “faking it”.

That year was one of the hardest for her, as she revealed in The Sun: “I really don’t want to dredge up the past but I did have my monster out there, I did have the internet turn on me and hate me and it was like a whole big thing. And it was a really good thing for me personally.

“You can be incredibly empowered because of those things. So I guess what I’d say is when the bad s**t happens, don’t fear it – just go with it, flow with it.”
