Scarlett Johansson to Make Directorial Debut with ‘Eleanor the Great’

Fans of actress Scarlett Johansson are eagerly awaiting the release of Eleanor the Great, her feature directorial debut from Sony TriStar.

Eleanor the Great narrates the saga of Eleanor Morgenstern, a 90-year old woman who, after the death of her best friend, decides to start a new life by returning to New York City after having long ago retired to Florida.

No release date has yet been announced for the film, which was originally тιтled Eleanor, Invisible. The filmscript was written by Tory Kamen, a veteran of the television series The Mick. Johansson will be producing the feature via These Pictures, Pinky Promise, and Maven Screen Media.

Her performance in Nebraska earned her an Oscar nomination for Best Supporting Actress. Hecht’s acting credits include Breaking Bad and The Boys. On Broadway, Johansson and Hecht had appeared together in A View from the Bridge, for which they each received a Tony nomination.

The cast of Eleanor the Great will also include several of Johansson’s colleagues in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), such as Chiwetel Ejiofor of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness and Erin Kellyman of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier.

The 39-year-old Johansson was the world’s highest-paid actress in 2018 and 2019, and was named by Time magazine as one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2021. Her first adult role was in the 2003 film Lost in Translation, directed by Sofia Coppola. Johansson also appeared in several Woody Allen films, including Match Point, Scoop, and Vicky Cristina Barcelona.

For the MCU, Johansson played the role of the Black Widow in Iron Man 2, reprising the role in eight features, including her solo feature Black Widow (2021).
