Angelina Jolie is a goddess on the red carpet, but when it comes to daywear, she prefers an understated approach. For premieres and awards ceremonies she brings opulence – her ethereal moment in chainmail Versace at the Rome Film Festival being just one notable example – and off-duty, she leans towards elevated minimalism. Take the form-fitting flecked grey midi dress, black ankle-dusting coat and stiletto pumps she just wore in Rome, for example. The look was businesslike but glamorous, with its modest silhouette and muted tones.
Jolie always plays by her own style rules. The actor’s wardrobe comprises timeless, foundational staples that she can rely on for years. Vintage is another key pillar of her wardrobe. In her British Vogue cover interview for the March 2021 issue, she revealed her efforts to become a more conscious consumer. “Enjoying your vintage pieces, if you have them, and rediscovering some vintage shops seems like part of the way forward,” she mused.
And it looks like she’s been sharing her wisdom with her family. Jolie lent her daughter Zahara a dazzling Elie Saab couture gown – that the actor previously wore to the Oscars in 2014 – to wear to the Hollywood premiere of Eternals in autumn last year. At the same event, her daughter Shiloh wore a beige dress that was reportedly a reworked version of the Gabriela Hearst slip that Angelina wore to an event in the summer. (The teen scoured her mother’s wardrobe once again ahead of the film’s London premiere, for which she wore a tweaked version of one of Angelina’s Dior dresses.)
