Scarlett Johansson Revealed Shooting We Bought A Zoo Was Difficult To Shoot Because Of A Certain Fear
Back in 2011, Scarlett Johansson discussed her fear of birds alongside Vulture. This proved to be just one of Johansson’s fesrs during the film. She also admitted to being afraid of cockroaches, and would not to do a scene with them in the film.
Johansson revealed, “I’m only scared of birds. Something about wings and beaks and the flapping. I’m terrified of them. That still hasn’t gone away. If they’d asked me to put a bird on my shoulder I would’ve done it, but it would’ve been hard. Cockroaches. I cannot stand cockroaches. That’s one thing I absolutely couldn’t do. But that’s not really an animal, is it? It’s an insect. … Actually, my uncle is terrified of birds, as well, so it runs in the family.”
Scarlett Johansson was tired of hearing that she was shorter than expected from interviewers, and set the record straight.
Looking back at the film, Johansson wasn’t the only star that had to face her fears. The same held true for Matt Damon, who had fears of his own when it came to certain animals in the film.
Matt Damon Had Difficulties Of His Own Shooting We Bought A Zoo
Matt Damon does not like snakes… The actor admitted co-star Scarlett Johansson didn’t have a problem with them, but he certainly did. Although the actor followed his animal instincts in We Bought a Zoo, filming with snakes was not his favorite part of the project.
He tells Today, “I was not excited to be working with the snakes,” he admitted. “I’ve never been a snake guy, and (co-star Scarlett Johansson) was totally cool with it. The second she sensed some trepidation she was like wrapping them around her and putting them on the kids and the kids were laughing at me so I had to kind of man up.”
For Matt Damon, the ultimate goal was making the film a serious version, and not “cheesy.”
“Yeah, the oversaccharine version … or kind of cheesy,” said Damon. “Which is to say more of like the TV movie version of the thing would have been a movie that I would not have wanted to really spend my time doing because it’s not the kind of movie I want to see.”
Damon got his wish and shared great chemistry with Johansson in the project.
