Scarlett Johansson is used to playing roles in the wine world. Once named the “Hollywood face” of Champagne house Möet & Chandon, the star of Marvel’s Black Widow was recently presented the 35th American Cinematheque Award, along with a magnum of 2016 Château Malartic-Lagravière, for her contributions to Hollywood cinema.

The Bonnie family, which owns Château Malartic-Lagravière and Argentina’s Bodega DiamAndes, sponsored the award ceremony for the second time, which was held at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Calif., on Nov. 18. The Bordeaux château poured their 2016 white and 2014 red during the event, which saw more than 700 friends, family and industry leaders gathered to celebrate Johansson’s achievement.

Johansson autographed the bottle and plans to auction it to support her twin brother’s charity, Solar Responders, which helps equip first responder stations with renewable backup energy systems.

“She showed a real interest in our property, and we had a real exchange when she signed the magnum,” said Véronique Bonnie, co-owner of Bonnie Family Estates, via email. “She likes wine, and she is now a big fan of Malartic.”

Bonnie awarded Oscar winner Charlize Theron a similar bottle when the château first sponsored the event.

“Nowadays, it is even more important to support the film industry that has been struggling during the recent pandemic,” Bonnie said about investing in American cinema. “Producing a Grand Cru is a bit like directing a film: telling the story of the terroir and the people who make it.”

Paso Robles’ Robert Hall Wines Star at New York’s Gotham Awards
The 31st annual Gotham Awards kicked off award season with New World wines on Nov. 29 in New York City. Paso Robles winery Robert Hall sponsored the star-studded event for the fifth consecutive time, serving their 2019 Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon at the 2021 ceremony. Oscar winners Nicolas Cage, Joaquin Phoenix and Forest Whitaker made appearances as well.
